Requested move 20 April 2017
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Not moved (somewhat early close per WP:SNOW). No such user (talk) 12:56, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
The O'Reilly Factor → The Factor – Update article title. Name should reflect name used in the most recent television broadcast itself. Agree with rationale by Kiraroshi1976, in this comment [1], and also agree with Trainsandtech, in this explanation [2]. In addition to sources suggested by Kiraroshi1976 and by Trainsandtech, we also have: Bill O’Reilly’s Name Has Already Been Scrubbed From ‘The Factor’, Fox News scrubs O’Reilly’s name from ‘The Factor,’, and Bill O’Reilly’s Name Wiped From ‘The Factor’ After Fox News Parts Ways With Star. Gotta fix this so Wikipedia isn't outdated. Thanks! Sagecandor (talk) 16:41, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

- Support, per sources suggested by Kiraroshi1976 and by Trainsandtech, as well as: The Huffington Post, The Washington Post, and Deadline. Thanks! Sagecandor (talk) 16:42, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose, for all intents and purposes "The O'Reilly Factor" is over and "The Factor" is a new show which should be on its own page. --В²C ☎ 17:19, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
Support - Per WP:NAMECHANGE (and WP:BLP and WP:NPOV if possible), change it right away. Also,AOL, Deadline, and WaPo confirm the change. --George Ho (talk) 17:48, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- Switched to oppose per latest news that the series is ending soon. Man, it's fun to see the controversy while it lasted. George Ho (talk) 21:40, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose, as they appear to be completely different programs. It has a different name and a different host. "The Factor" appears to be a placeholder show that will only run for three days. Seahorseruler (Talk Page) (Contribs) 18:20, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose. Undue weight to this new name. The article is about the longterm significance of the series called The O'Reilly Factor. Other than three episodes, the show was not called "The Factor" commonly. This name change is worth noting, sure, but does not override 19 years of O'Reilly's name. -- Wikipedical (talk) 19:13, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose – Article is about Bill's tenure as host. Plus, AOL.com says Tucker Carlson will fill the 8 p.m. slot. Corkythehornetfan (ping me) 19:19, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose – The article is about what everyone knows and will remember as the O'Reilly Factor. I agree with Wikipedical's reasoning. Caspian X 22:04, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose I would have supported the move per WP:NAMECHANGES if the show was going to continue but its last episode is to air tomorrow. WP:COMMONNAME applies and O'Reilly's 20 years at the network is more notable than the few days that the show ran without him.LM2000 (talk) 23:26, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose I agree with Wikipedical and LM2000. Grapesoda22 (✉) 23:46, 20 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose. The O'Reilly Factor is the historical name of a past TV program and the article is about that past program in the same manner as the Wikipedia article The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson reflects the history of that past program. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 00:20, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose. The series is set to conclude tomorrow. For almost the entirely of its run, the program was called The O'Reilly Factor. As such, changing the show's name makes no sense. However, Dana Perino ought to be listed as a presenter, because O'Reilly has left the show permanently, and the show is now hosted by her (even if it is only for three days). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.239.47.13 (talk) 02:32, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- Support O'Reilly has since been terminated from this network and Fox News is making continuous changes to their entire network because of it. Being that he is no longer with the network, they were right to scrub his name from the show and anywhere else within their network as well...regardless of the fact that "The Factor" will be ending its run on April 21st, 2017. Because of this, I have reflected the company's immediate changes on "The Factor's" Wikipedia page, complete with sourced material. Thank you. jmcd88 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 04:08, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- Support The article should reflect the current name of the show, despite it being canceled on April 21st, as the network's official branding position of the show should be what is implemented. Donstony (talk) 04:50, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose It's done as of 9pm tonight; it'll forever be associated with BO'R and we're not going to use "the network's official branding position" as our guide and let them change it three days before its cancellation. They made their bath and now they have to sit in it. Nate • (chatter) 10:47, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose, it's a cut-and-dry case of WP:DUEWEIGHT. The program will always be referred to as The O'Reilly Factor in hindsight. It's a historical subject now. We can mention the new title in the lead but in no way is it the best title for the article. We go by reliable sources and consensus, not technical correctness. The current article title is the one everyone will always use for this program outside of the current 3-day stretch. Gendralman (talk) 12:25, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose The significance of this new show is widely unknown. Whether it is a continuation of the O'Reilly's show with a new host, or is just a placeholder for something completely different is way too early to call, nevertheless, changing the name of the whole article. Agith (talk) 15:38, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose. The new rendition of the show should get its own article. Steel1943 (talk) 16:00, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- ...If the show is even continued per recent news. Also, if this new name isn't notable, it may be wise to turn The Factor into a disambiguation page: Most, if not all, incoming links to The Factor refer to a horse. Steel1943 (talk) 17:27, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- Support Wikipedia articles should use relevant and the latest credible information, especially in the names of articles. The fact is the show has been renamed, so I suggest the article is also renamed to "The Factor" with "The O'Reilly Factor" being kept as a redirect. Even if not many episodes are to be aired under that name, that is the latest name of the show prior to being canceled. trainsandtech (talk) 23:34, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose while I agree that going with the rename makes sense in most cases a 3 episode run vs a run that lasted from 1998-2017 should be an exception.--64.229.167.158 (talk) 00:51, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose. The 2016 Ghostbusters was retroactively renamed Ghostbusters: Answer the Call. The same thing happened to Edge of Tomorrow, which was later renamed Live. Die. Repeat. However, both films' original titles are the ones that they are best known for, and as such, the show should not be listed under its new name on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RaymondCHedges (talk • contribs) 01:47, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose. The series is over now, so this is now a historical article (as noted in another comment above). In a couple of years, the three-day run of this show as "The Factor" will be a mere footnote in the history of the program. Additionally, "The Factor" was in no way different from "The O'Reilly Factor" in anything but name. The two guest hosts would have been on regardless (as O'Reilly was on vacation), and their guest appearances would not have merited a new Wikipedia entry had O'Reilly remained with the network. So, just as the articles for Malcolm X and Cat Stevens identify them by their more popular names, and as movies like Star Wars that were later renamed continue on in Wikipedia under their most popular title [from the SW article: Star Wars (later retitled Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope)] this program will be remembered as The O'Reilly Factor. So, the article should be titled accordingly. Cactusframe (talk) 04:46, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
- Strong Support i'm going.to Strong support the vote on move 2602:306:36D5:5690:F59D:A62E:1BF9:1B67 (talk) 15:36, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose The show had an extremely limited run as "The Factor" and has been known for the past 20 years as "The O'Reilly Factor". There is no sense in renaming it to the temporary name Fox gave it during the 3-day run it had as "The Factor" -- most people may not know the show by that name. As someone else here suggested, they should be distinguished separately, like we do for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, and other television series like it. Pjor1 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:46, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose I would suggest a sperate article for "The Factor" if it keeps a title similar to that with the new host, as was done with e.g. The Late Late Show, and The Late Late Show with, say, Craig Ferguson as the format of the show may change with the new host making the format of O' Reillys tenure remain relevant. MilesR — MilesR (talk • contribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.
- Oppose Obviously they changed the name for 3 episodes just so they could transition to a different broadcast non abruptly. Basic understanding of how TV works. GuzzyG (talk) 23:58, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

[edit]- Any additional comments:
May the proposal be withdrawn please? Looks like a snow oppose to me. --George Ho (talk) 01:52, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
Never mind. Seems that a couple more favor the title change. George Ho (talk) 04:53, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

Inappropriate Lead
[edit]Per WP:LEAD and WP:UNDUE, I believe our lead is inappropriate. Over 2/3 of the lead deals with the recent news of the shows ending. I'll let others weigh in, but if we can't get an improvement I'm going to boldly remove what I view to be the violations. Surely there's more to write about this show that ran for such a long time instead of just the way it ended. Mr Ernie (talk) 13:27, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
- Solution is to expand the intro more. The few sentences about the termination is appropriate. Sagecandor (talk) 17:16, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
